Mauritius PM concedes Defeat in Parliamentary Elections.......
Pravind Jugnauth, who is the incumbent prime minister of Mauritius,
has conceded defeat in hotly disputed parliamentary election, saying his
political alliance is headed for a major loss. Jugnauth told reporters on
Monday, “L’Alliance Lepep is heading towards a huge defeat. I have tried to do
what I can for the country and the population. The population has decided to
choose another team. I wish good luck to the country”. Final results from Sunday’s vote have yet to be released, but
opposition leader Navin Ramgoolam looked set to become prime minister for the
third time at the head of his Alliance of Change coalition. Jugnauth said his
Lepep alliance, led by his Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), was “heading
towards a huge defeat” after the elections in one of Africa’s most stable and
prosperous democracies.
