Indian Parents Rush for C-Sections Ahead of Trump’s Citizenship Deadline.......

While controversial, former U.S. President Donald Trump's (Trump) proposed law to limit birthright citizenship is about to take effect, and Indian parents residing in the US are rushing in the last days (deadline, February 19) to assure that their children are also citizens. The immigration ban that affects children born to non-citizens, has caused alarm amongst immigrant communities.
In hospitals throughout the U.S. there is a strange, unprecedented, spike in requests for early C-delivery from Indian expectant parents trying to win against time. Doctors have reported families pleading for expedited deliveries, despite the potential health risks for both mothers and babies. “We are seeing a wave of fear-driven decisions, said a physician in New York. Parents are terrified of a child losing his/her right to citizenship.
Immigration rights groups have blasted the order as a direct assault on the founding principles of equality and inclusion on which the United States is founded. Legal professionals contend the change would likely meet with considerable obstacles in the courts, since birthright citizenship has been made embodied in the 14th Amendment.
In the meantime, parents caught in the middle are faced with the difficult choice between their hopes for a good life in the US and the risks of early births. With the approaching deadline the pressure increases focusing on these families and only emphasizes the cost to human beings of political agendas.
