Former Madhya Pradesh transport department constable Saurabh
Sharma was arrested on January 28, 2025, in connection with a massive
corruption scandal. The Lokayukta Police produced the two accused in front of the Session's Judge Ram Pratap
Mishr were he ordered a remand till 4th of February
for Saurabh and Chetan, his close aid. The advocate representing the Lokayukta Police had demanded thier custody for a 7 day which was duely contested by the opposition's lawyer.
Following his arrest, he was presented before a special court and remanded to judicial custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe, recently freezing Rs.30 lakh in bank balances linked to Sharma and his associates while seizing Rs.12 lakh in unexplained cash and 9.9 kg of silver worth Rs.9.17 lakh. Earlier raids had uncovered assets worth over Rs.90 crore, including Rs.4 crore in bank accounts, Rs.9.86 crore in cash, 52 kg of gold, diamond jewelry, and luxury vehicles. Investigators allege that Sharma exploited his position in the transport department to accumulate illicit wealth. His arrest marks a major breakthrough in the state’s ongoing crackdown on corruption, with further investigations underway.
